Seedings and pairings have been announced for this year's State Tournament.

Talk About It!

With more than a half million posts since 2000 and over 17,000 registered users, Mitch Hawker's High School Hockey Forums is the premier place to talk about hockey in Minnesota.

Toughest Schedules & Sections

Based on games played through the section tournaments, this page ranks the 157 Minnesota teams based on their opponents' average PageStat rating. I've also compiled the average PageStat rating for the sections. Check it out!

What's In A Name?

For the purpose of brevity, a number of teams have shortened names listed both on the scores page and on the PS2 pages. Not wanting to offend any schools who deserve recognition, you can see which schools comprise these co-op schools state-wide.

A Brief Overview

This site is an attempt to pay tribute to the 157 teams which play boys' high school hockey in Minnesota. I've been around long enough to see some great teams from the past; International Falls, Greenway, Grand Rapids, Edina, Bloomington Jefferson, Duluth East, Roseau and many others who have left their footprint on the high school scene in this great state. Other teams such as the Eveleth dynasty in the late 40's and early 50's, predate me. It would have been incredible to see some of those teams play.

Many of my childhood memories center around sitting in a near-trance in front of our family television each March, watching the eight teams compete for the state tournament championship. Since I grew up (and still live) in N.E. Minnesota, I learned one lesson early on...you root for anyone but Twin Cities teams, when you live up north. When an Iron Range or Duluth area team would defeat a Twin Cities team, we'd go nuts. Which didn't happen very often during the lean years of the late '70's through the late '80's. The resurgence of Duluth East's and Moorhead's programs in the early 1990's made them a force to be reckoned with, once again.

The high school scene offers an alternative to NHL hockey for the purist. The NHL, simply put, blew it by cancelling their entire 2004-05 season. They lost some fans forever, and this is only right. Besides, the NHL takes a back seat to high school (and college) hockey, anyway. My preference is due to two factors; the excitement of that particular level, and the lack of violence that has plagued the pro sport for so long. It's also a refreshing change to see players participating in the sport for the enjoyment of it, and not just for the grossly overpaid salaries they're being paid to play. Give me a Cloquet vs. Duluth East game at the DECC over a pro game anyday!
